My sister and I spent a week enjoying Le Mans and Paris, plus a morning trip to Versailles.

Spending 3 days in Le Mans and 4 days in Paris, with a quick morning train ride to Versailles, spoiled us with the elation of seeing art, monuments and other sights—from quaint cobblestones to stunning gilding—that we've only ever dreamt of seeing outside of books and movies.
If there's one thing we learned in Belgium, it's that we love good a bell tower—after the 424 steps are behind us.
Between the Notre-Dame Cathedral, Palace of Versailles and all 3 museums, the 2-day Paris Museum Pass was well worth it. Plus, booking time slots saved us a lot of waiting.
My stay at Au fil de l'eau outside of Le Mans was nothing short of wonderful. The house was nestled along a tranquil river, ideal for roaming the grounds, which included a bridge to a little island, and the nearby hiking paths. The host was friendly and attentive, serving breakfast either in a quiet, cozy room with a fire or outside among the croaking frogs and his dog and cat.
The highlight of Le Mans was the historic medieval Cité Plantagenêt—strolling along cobbled streets, past timber framing and decorative Roman walls, and through the French Gothic cathedral.
While I'm by no means a racing fanatic, experiencing the excitement of the 24 Hours of Le Mans was worth the ticket.
